Slap Shot

When a factory closing threatens a small city’s prosperity, local minor-league hockey skipper Reg Dunlop (Newman) has no Kinky Boots-y aspirations of keeping the plant open – but he does have a clever plan to keep his Charlestown Chiefs in business, by giving the fans what they really want: more fights. In 20017, it was named the “best sports film of the past 50 years” by GQ – for a film written by a woman, quite an honor from a lad mag – but it’s up against some heavy off-rink competition for the 1977 VFA.
