On the surface, Persona is the story of two women: A nurse is assigned to take care of a famous actress who has, for unknown reasons, lost her ability to speak. By the time it ends, what’s it’s all about is open to interpretation (and there’s been a lot of that). As one would expect, there are plenty of dark themes here – but for those who have never watched a Bergman film, this is perhaps his most accessible and publicly loved work.
