Because of its taboo plotline (abortion is frankly discussed), several A-list actors turned down the role of Alfie Elkins, a Cockney Casanova on the make in Swinging London, but newcomer Michael Caine seized the opportunity to charm a bevy of British babes – and the awards committees. There’s little for modern men to learn about seduction here, save that when that someone comes up for a coffee you might try putting on the film’s outstanding jazz soundtrack by Sonny Rollins.
